How to resize product photos
- Choose all the product photos for your listing or catalogue.
- Keep Square 2048 × 2048, or pick 1600 or 1000 px.
- Keep Fit, plain background (white padding), or choose Crop to fill for close-ups.
- Press Resize photos and download them as a ZIP.
Why square, and why 2048 px
Shop themes show products in grids; when every image is the same shape the grid lines up and no product gets cropped differently in collection pages and thumbnails. Shopify recommends square 2048 × 2048 pixel images, which leave room for zoom on high-resolution screens while staying a manageable size. Many marketplaces enable zoom only from 1000 pixels on the longest side, so 1600 px is a safe middle ground there.
Each platform publishes its own image rules and they change over time; check the current requirements of your shop or marketplace.
White background, product uncropped
Fit, plain background scales each photo so the whole product fits, then fills the rest of the square with white, the look most marketplaces prefer for main images. A photo taken on white paper or a light table blends in seamlessly. If you already shot tight close-ups, Crop to fill fills the square instead and trims the edges.
Smaller files, faster shop
2048 px JPGs at 90 percent are usually a few hundred KB, much lighter than camera originals. Lower the quality slider to 80 percent for even faster pages, or compress afterwards with compress image to 300 KB. Resizing also removes the camera metadata. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
What size should product photos be?
Square images of 2048 × 2048 pixels suit Shopify and most shop themes; 1000 to 1600 px squares are common elsewhere. Check your platform's current rules.
Will my products be cropped?
No, with Fit, plain background: the whole photo is placed on a white square.
Can I resize a whole catalogue at once?
Yes. Add all the photos; they are resized one after the other and downloaded as a ZIP.
Can the padding be transparent instead of white?
No. The padding is always white, which is what most shops and marketplaces want for product images.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are resized in your browser.
