How to merge PDF

  1. Choose two or more PDF files, or drop them onto the box.
  2. Drag the files (or use the arrows) until they are in the right order.
  3. Press Merge PDFs.
  4. Download the combined PDF, or send it straight on with a link or by email.

What merging keeps, and what it does not

Every page is copied across exactly as it is: text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their original resolution and page sizes are not changed. A mixed document, for example A4 letters followed by a landscape spreadsheet, stays mixed.

A few document-level extras belong to each original file rather than to its pages, so they are not carried into the merged PDF: bookmarks (the outline panel), form fields that only work in their original file, and digital signatures, which are invalidated by any change to a signed document. If you need a signed contract to stay verifiable, send it as a separate file instead of merging it.

Why it is fast and private

Most online PDF services upload your documents, merge them on their servers and make you download the result again. Here the merge happens in your browser, using a well-tested open-source PDF library running in a background worker. Your files never leave your phone or computer, which matters for contracts, bank statements, medical letters and anything else you would rather not hand to a stranger's server.

Because nothing travels over the network, the size of your internet connection does not matter. A merge of fifty pages usually finishes in a second or two.

Tips for a tidy merged PDF

  • Name files so they sort well before you add them, for example 01-cover.pdf, 02-invoice.pdf. They appear in the order you pick them, and you can still drag them around.
  • Need only part of a file? Use Extract pages first, then merge the result.
  • Pages the wrong way round? Fix them afterwards with Rotate PDF, or reorder single pages with Organize PDF.
  • Too big to email? Run the merged file through Compress PDF, or skip the attachment limit and send it with a link.

Sending the merged file

When the merge is done you can download the PDF, or choose Send with a link or Email it. Those two hand the merged file to our free transfer service without you having to find it again, so a 200 MB bundle of scans can reach someone who would never receive it as an email attachment. Frequently asked questions

Is merging PDFs here really free?

Yes. There is no charge, no account, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.

Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?

No. The files are read and merged by your browser on your own device. They are only uploaded if you choose to send the result with a link or by email afterwards.

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

As many as your device can hold in memory. Each file can be up to the size shown in the box; a laptop comfortably merges hundreds of pages, and phones handle typical documents without trouble.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not directly. Encrypted PDFs cannot be changed without the password. Open the file, save or print a copy without protection, then merge that copy.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Open this page in Safari, Chrome or any current browser, choose the PDFs from Files or your downloads, and download or send the result.

Need to send a big file?

Send files up to 20 GB with a download link or by email. Free, no account needed, original quality.
