Instagram crops or letterboxes videos that are not in its shapes. Make the exact size yourself: 4:5 for the feed, 1:1 square, or 9:16 for Reels and Stories, at 1080 pixels wide, with the whole picture kept on a blurred background or cropped to fill.

  2. Pick Feed 4:5, Square 1:1 or Reels 9:16.

Instagram video sizes

Feed post (square)1:11080 × 1080
Reels and Stories9:161080 × 1920

4:5 is the tallest shape the feed shows in full, so it takes the most room on screen. The grid on your profile shows a centred crop of each post; keep the subject in the middle.

Why the blurred background

A landscape video in a 4:5 or 9:16 frame leaves empty space above and below. Instead of black bars, the tool fills it with a blurred, darkened copy of the same video, the look most creators use, so nothing of your picture is cut off. If the subject fills the frame, “Crop to fill” gives a bigger picture instead.

Upload-ready file

The result is H.264 video with AAC sound in an MP4, which Instagram accepts from phone and computer. It is made on your device, with no watermark and no account. For a video that is too long for a Reel, cut it first with Trim video; for other shapes, use Crop video.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best video size for Instagram?

1080 × 1350 (4:5) for feed posts and 1080 × 1920 (9:16) for Reels and Stories.

How do I post a landscape video without cropping it?

Keep “Fit on blurred background”: the whole video is kept and the empty space is filled with a blurred copy.

Will Instagram still compress my video?

Yes, Instagram re-encodes every upload. Starting from the exact size avoids an extra crop or resize on top of that.

Is there a watermark?

No. No watermark and no sign-up.

Is my video uploaded here?

No. It is resized on your device; you upload it to Instagram yourself.
