Which aspect ratio for what

RatioUsed for
9:16TikTok, Reels, Shorts, Stories, WhatsApp status
4:5Instagram and Facebook feed (takes the most screen space)
1:1Square posts, profile videos
16:9YouTube, TV, presentations
4:3Older cameras, some slides

Crop, blur or bars

  • Crop to fill cuts off the edges. The box on the preview shows exactly what stays; move it with the position slider.
  • Fit on blurred background keeps the whole picture and fills the empty space with a blurred, darkened copy of the video.
  • Black bars keeps the whole picture on black.

Cropping keeps the original pixels unless you pick a smaller output size, so a 4K video cropped to 9:16 stays sharp.

Output and privacy

The result is an H.264 MP4, the format every app accepts; AAC sound is copied unchanged. Encoding runs in your browser with your device's video encoder, about real time on a phone. Nothing is uploaded. Presets for platforms: Instagram and TikTok.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a landscape video to vertical?

Choose 9:16, keep “Crop to fill”, and slide the position until the subject is inside the box on the preview.

Can I keep the whole video instead of cutting the sides?

Yes. Choose “Fit on blurred background” or “Fit with black bars”.

Does cropping reduce the quality?

The video is re-encoded at a high bitrate and keeps the original pixel density unless you choose a smaller size.

Does it work with iPhone videos?

Yes. H.264 videos work in every current browser; HEVC works in Safari and in Chrome or Edge on Windows and macOS.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is cropped on your device.
