Why websites give you WebP
WebP is a modern format from Google that makes images 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at the same quality, so most large websites now serve it. Browsers show it without trouble, but when you save the image, older photo viewers, some versions of Office, many upload forms and plenty of editing apps cannot open it.
Converting to JPG gives you a file that works everywhere. It will be a little larger than the WebP.
Transparency and animation
WebP can be transparent, JPG cannot: transparent areas are filled with white (or black if you choose). To keep transparency, use WebP to PNG. Animated WebP files are converted as a still picture of the first frame.
Respect the image's owner
Converting a file does not change who owns it. Images saved from websites are usually protected by copyright, so check you are allowed to use them for your purpose. The conversion itself happens entirely on your device; nothing is uploaded.
