How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Choose your PNG files.
  2. Set the JPG quality; 85–90% is a good balance.
  3. Pick white or black for any transparent areas.
  4. Press Convert to JPG and download or send the results.

Why convert PNG to JPG

PNG is lossless, which is ideal for graphics but wasteful for photos: a phone screenshot of a photo or a picture exported as PNG can easily be 5 to 10 times larger than the same image as a high-quality JPG. Many upload forms also accept only JPG. Converting fixes both.

For images that are mostly text or flat colours, such as a chart or a UI screenshot, JPG can leave faint smudges around sharp edges. For those, Compress PNG is often the better way to make them smaller while keeping them crisp.

What happens to transparency

JPG has no transparency. Transparent parts of your PNG are filled with the colour you choose: white suits documents and most websites, black suits dark designs. Semi-transparent edges, such as the soft outline of a logo, are blended smoothly into that colour.

If you need to keep the transparent background, stay with PNG or convert to WebP with Convert image.

In your browser, not on a server

Your PNGs are converted by your browser, so they never travel to us, and a batch converts in seconds. There are no ads, no accounts and no watermarks.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?

Slightly, because JPG is lossy, but at 85 to 90 percent the difference is not visible on photos. Sharp text and lines may show faint artefacts.

What happens to the transparent background?

It becomes white by default, or black if you choose. JPG cannot store transparency.

How much smaller will the file be?

Photos saved as PNG often shrink by 70 to 90 percent. Simple graphics shrink less.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs on your device.
