Split an Audio File Into Parts

Cut one recording into parts: at times, equal parts or silences.

Your files are processed on your device and never uploaded.

Turn a long recording into separate files: cut at the times you mark, into a number of equal parts, or automatically at the pauses between songs or chapters. Download each part or all of them as a ZIP.

  3. Mark the times while listening, or set the number of parts or the silence settings.
  4. Press Split audio, listen to the parts, then download them as a ZIP or send them with a link.

Three ways to split

ModeGood for
At times you markChapters of a talk, songs of a live set, the questions of an interview
Into equal partsUpload limits (for example 10-minute pieces), sharing a long lecture in sections
At silencesRecords and tapes digitised in one go, voice notes with pauses between topics

How silence detection works

The tool decodes the audio and measures its level every 20 milliseconds. Every stretch quieter than the threshold (default −40 dBFS) for at least the minimum length (default 0.7 s) becomes a cut, placed in the middle of the pause. Tick “Remove the silence” to drop the pauses completely.

  • Too many parts? Lower the threshold (−50 dB) or make the minimum pause longer.
  • Missing a split? Raise the threshold (−30 dB): noisy recordings are never fully silent.

Same quality as the original

When MP3 parts stay MP3 and M4A parts stay M4A, they are copied without re-encoding and cut on frame boundaries, so nothing is lost and the parts add up to the full length. WAV stays uncompressed. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded. To join files instead, use Merge audio.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split an MP3 without losing quality?

Yes. Keep MP3 as the output and the frames are copied unchanged into each part.

How do I split a recording into songs automatically?

Choose “At silences”. The default settings find the gaps between most songs; adjust the threshold if there are too many or too few parts.

How many parts can I make?

Up to 200. They download as one ZIP, or can be sent together with a link.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Splitting at silences decodes the whole file first, which takes a little longer on phones.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. It is split on your device.
