Ratios for the places you post
| Ratio | Use it for |
|---|---|
| 1:1 | Profile pictures, Instagram grid, marketplace listings |
| 4:5 | Instagram portrait posts (the tallest the feed shows) |
| 16:9 | YouTube thumbnails, presentations, desktop wallpapers |
| 9:16 | Stories, Reels, TikTok and phone wallpapers |
| 3:2 / 4:3 | Prints and the shape most cameras take |
A ratio fixes the shape, not the size in pixels. When a site asks for exact pixels, such as 1080 × 1350, crop to the ratio here, then set the size in the Resize tab (or use Resize image).
Cropping without losing quality
Cropping only removes pixels at the edges; the part you keep is not scaled. The cropped image is rendered from your original, and PNG output keeps it pixel for pixel. The size readout under the tools shows the exact width and height you will get, so you can see when a crop gets too small to print or post sharply: aim for at least 1080 pixels on the short side for social media.
Crop screenshots and documents too
Trim the status bar off a phone screenshot, cut a receipt out of a photo of your desk, or keep one paragraph of a long capture. For screenshots, save as PNG so text stays crisp. If you also want to hide a name or a number, switch to the Blur tab before saving; see Blur image.
