How to compress image to 50 KB

  1. Choose your photo or scan.
  2. Keep 50 KB, or pick 30 or 80 KB to match your form.
  3. Press Compress to 50 KB.
  4. Download the result and upload it to the form.

Why 50 KB needs smaller dimensions

A photo straight from a phone is 3 to 5 MB. Getting it to 50 KB by lowering quality alone would leave it blocky. So on this page the image is first limited to 1280 pixels on its longest side, which is still more detail than any form displays, and then compressed to the highest quality that fits. If needed, the dimensions come down a little further.

For a passport-style photo, a width of 300 to 600 pixels is usually all a form uses; at that size, 50 KB gives a crisp picture.

Photo or signature?

Forms often ask for two uploads with different limits: a photograph (often 20 to 50 KB) and a signature (often 10 to 20 KB). For the signature, sign on white paper with a dark pen, photograph it in good light, crop it tightly, then use compress to 20 KB. A signature has so little detail that it stays perfectly clear.

Also check the pixel size and format

Forms that set a file size limit often also require a specific width and height, such as 200 × 230 pixels, and the JPG format. Resize to the exact size with Resize image first, then compress here; smaller dimensions make hitting 50 KB easy. Your photo is processed on your device the whole time.
