How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Choose your HEIC photos.
  2. Press Convert to PNG.
  3. Download the PNG files (or a ZIP of all of them).
  4. Open them in your editor, or send them on with a link.

PNG or JPG: which one do you need?

JPG is the right choice for sharing and uploading: small files that open everywhere. PNG is lossless, so every time you open, edit and save it, nothing more is lost. That makes it the better intermediate format when a photo is going into Photoshop, GIMP, Figma or Canva, when you will remove the background and need transparency later, or when you will edit and re-save it several times.

The catch is size. A 12-megapixel photo as PNG is typically 15 to 25 MB, several times the HEIC. If you only want to share or upload the photo, HEIC to JPG is the better choice.

Decoded on your device

Safari can read HEIC natively; in other browsers a libheif-based decoder is loaded into this page. In both cases the photo is decoded and written as PNG by your browser, and never uploaded. Photos are turned upright using their orientation, and location data is not copied into the PNG.

Large files, easy sending

Because PNGs are big, a batch can easily reach hundreds of megabytes: too much for email. Use Send with a link to hand them to our free transfer service, or shrink them first with Compress PNG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Can I convert many photos at once?

Yes. Select several HEIC files and download all the PNGs as a ZIP.
