Browser extension Outlook add-in Gmail Phone and computer app Windows "Send to"

Browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari

Send files without leaving the page you're on:

  • Side panel: click the toolbar button, add files, copy the link (in Firefox it's the sidebar; in Safari a tab).
  • Right-click a picture, video or download link and choose Send this file: the full file is fetched and you get a link to share.
  • Gmail and Outlook on the web: a Large files button appears in every email you write; the link goes into the email when the upload finishes.

Chrome, Edge, Brave (v1.0.0) Firefox (v1.0.0) Safari (Mac) (v1.0.0)

Install it in Chrome or Edge (1 minute)

  1. Download the Chrome file above and unzip it (double-click it on a Mac, or right-click and choose Extract All on Windows).
  2. In Chrome open chrome://extensions (in Edge: edge://extensions) and switch on Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.
  4. Click the puzzle icon in the toolbar and pin Share Large Files Free.

Developer mode is how browsers install extensions that aren't from their store yet. You can remove it any time from the same page.

Install it in Firefox
  1. Download the Firefox file above. You don't need to unzip it.
  2. Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox and click Load Temporary Add-on….
  3. Choose the zip file. The toolbar button opens the sidebar.

Firefox removes add-ons it hasn't signed when it restarts, so you load it again after a restart until it's on Firefox Add-ons. In Firefox Developer Edition or Nightly it can stay: set xpinstall.signatures.required to false in about:config, then choose Install Add-on From File in about:addons.

Install it in Safari (Mac)
  1. Safari needs every extension wrapped in a Mac app. Install Xcode from the App Store (free) and open it once.
  2. Download the Safari file above and unzip it.
  3. In Terminal, type xcrun safari-web-extension-converter --macos-only , drag the unzipped folder into the window, and press Return. Xcode opens the new project.
  4. Press Run (▶) in Xcode, which builds and opens the small app once.
  5. In Safari: Settings > Advanced, turn on Show features for web developers; then Develop > Allow Unsigned Extensions.
  6. In Settings > Extensions, turn on Share Large Files Free and allow it on mail.google.com and Outlook.

Safari turns Allow Unsigned Extensions off again when it quits, until the extension is on the Mac App Store. On iPhone and iPad, use the website or add it to your Home Screen instead.

Outlook add-in

A Large files button while you write an email, in new Outlook for Windows, classic Outlook and Outlook on the web. Pick files, and the download link is added where your cursor is.

Add it to Outlook

  1. In Outlook, open Get add-ins (on the web: the Apps button, or aka.ms/olksideload).
  2. Choose My add-ins, then Add a custom add-in > Add from URL.
  3. Paste this address and confirm: https://sharelargefilesfree.com/apps/outlook-manifest.xml
  4. Write a new email: the Large files button is on the ribbon (or under Apps).

Work or school account? If Add a custom add-in is missing, your IT team can add the same address for everyone in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Gmail

Install the browser extension: every email you write in Gmail gets a Large files button next to Send. It opens the side panel, and the link goes into your email when the upload is done. Nothing is attached, so Gmail's 25 MB limit doesn't apply.

On a phone, use the app: share files to it from your gallery, then paste the link into Gmail.

App for your phone and computer

Install the site as an app from your browser, no store needed. It opens in its own window and shows up in your phone's Share menu, so you can send videos straight from your gallery.

  • Android (Chrome): open sharelargefilesfree.com, tap the menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen.
  • iPhone and iPad (Safari): tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Windows, Mac, ChromeOS (Chrome or Edge): click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or menu > Install.

More detail in the guide: install the app and share from your gallery.

Windows: right-click a file to send it

Once the app is installed in Chrome or Edge, Windows can hand files to it:

  • Open with: right-click a video, photo, PDF or ZIP > Open with > Share Large Files Free.
  • Share: right-click > Share and pick the app in the Windows share window.
  • Send to: run this once in PowerShell to add the app to the Send to menu: irm https://sharelargefilesfree.com/apps/windows-send-to.ps1 | iex It only copies the app's Start menu shortcut into your Send to folder. Read the script first.

Frequently asked questions

Is the browser extension free?

Yes. It sends through this website, with the same free limits, and needs no account.

Which browsers does the extension work in?

Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera and other browsers built on Chromium, Firefox 140 or newer on a computer and Safari on a Mac. In Firefox it opens in the sidebar; in Safari it opens in a tab, and the Gmail and Outlook button opens a window on the page.

Why does Firefox remove the extension when I restart it?

Firefox only keeps extensions that Mozilla has signed. Until it's on Firefox Add-ons, the version you load yourself stays until you close Firefox. Firefox Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it: set xpinstall.signatures.required to false in about:config and install the zip from about:addons.

Does the Gmail button attach the files to the email?

No, and that's the point: the files are uploaded here and the email gets a download link, so Gmail's 25 MB attachment limit doesn't apply.

Does the Outlook add-in work in new Outlook and on the web?

Yes. It works in new Outlook for Windows, classic Outlook on Windows and Mac, and Outlook on the web, for any account where you can add your own add-ins.

Can my company install the Outlook add-in for everyone?

Yes. An administrator can deploy the same manifest address for all users from the Microsoft 365 admin center (Integrated apps).

What data does the extension read?

Only what it needs: on Gmail and Outlook it adds a button to the email you are writing and puts the link where your cursor is. It doesn't read or send your emails anywhere.
