# Merge Audio Files

Put songs, voice notes or podcast segments together into a single file. Drag them into order, add a crossfade or a pause between them if you like, and save one MP3, M4A or WAV.

## How to use it

1. Choose or drop two or more audio files.
2. Drag them (or use the arrows) into the right order.
3. Set a crossfade or a pause between clips, and the output format.
4. Press Merge audio, listen to the result, then download it or send it with a link.

## Crossfade or pause

- **Crossfade** overlaps the end of one clip with the start of the next, one fading out while the other fades in (equal-power curves, so the level stays even). 2 to 5 seconds suits a music mix. The file gets shorter by the crossfade at every join.
- **Pause** puts silence between the clips, useful for spoken segments.
- Leave both at 0 for a straight join.

## Different formats and sample rates

You can mix formats: an M4A voice memo, a WAV recording and an MP3 song join fine. The tool decodes each clip, converts them to one sample rate (44.1 or 48 kHz, from the first clip) and stereo if any clip is stereo, and encodes the result once. Quiet and loud clips keep their own levels; to even them out first, use [Change audio volume](https://sharelargefilesfree.com/tools/change-audio-volume).

## On your device

The audio is decoded and joined in pieces, so even hours of recordings work without filling your phone's memory. Nothing is uploaded. Want the clips layered on top of each other instead of one after another? Use the [Audio mixer](https://sharelargefilesfree.com/tools/mix-audio).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I merge MP3 and M4A files together?

Yes. Any mix of MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG and Opus works; the result is one MP3, M4A or WAV.

### How do I change the order?

Drag a file by its handle, or use the up and down arrows next to it.

### Is there a limit on the number of files?

No fixed limit. Each file can be up to the size shown on the page.

### Is the audio re-encoded?

Yes, once, at the quality you choose (or as lossless WAV). That is what makes crossfades and mixed formats possible.

### Are my files uploaded?

No. They are merged in your browser.
