# Fade Audio In and Out

Give a song, a jingle or a recording a soft start and a gentle ending instead of an abrupt cut. Set the lengths, pick a curve, and apply it to one file or a whole batch.

## How to use it

1. Choose or drop one or more audio files.
2. Set the fade in and fade out in seconds (0 for none).
3. Pick the curve: smooth for music, linear or logarithmic.
4. Press Apply fades, listen, then download or send the files.

## Which curve to use

| Curve | Sounds like | Good for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Smooth (sine) | Even, natural fade | Music, most uses |
| Linear | Level drops slowly, then quickly at the end | Short fades, sound effects |
| Logarithmic | Steady fall in decibels, like turning a volume knob | Long fade outs |

## Typical lengths

- Removing a click at a cut: 0.1 to 0.5 s.
- Song intro: 1 to 3 s.
- Radio-style ending: 5 to 10 s.

To cut a section first, use [Trim audio](https://sharelargefilesfree.com/tools/trim-audio), which also has fades. For a ringtone with fades, use [Ringtone maker](https://sharelargefilesfree.com/tools/make-ringtone).

## Quality and privacy

Fading changes the samples, so the audio is decoded and encoded again: choose 192 kbps or more for music, or WAV to keep it lossless. It all happens in your browser, and the files are not uploaded.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I add only a fade out?

Yes. Set the fade in to 0.

### Can I fade several files at once?

Yes. The same fades are applied to every file; download them as a ZIP.

### Does fading lower the quality?

The audio is re-encoded once. At 192 kbps or more, or as WAV, you will not hear a difference.

### Are my files uploaded?

No. The fades are applied on your device.
