## How to use it

1. Choose or drop your audio files.
2. Pick MP3, M4A or WAV and the quality.
3. Press Convert audio.
4. Listen on the page, then download the files or send them with a link.

## Supported formats

| From | To |
| --- | --- |
| WAV, FLAC (lossless) | MP3, M4A, WAV |
| M4A, AAC (iPhone, iTunes) | MP3, M4A, WAV |
| OGG Vorbis, Opus, WebM audio | MP3, M4A, WAV |
| MP3 | M4A, WAV, or a different MP3 bitrate |

Files with more than two channels (surround) are mixed down to stereo. Sample rates that MP3 does not support are converted to 44.1 or 48 kHz.

## Lossy and lossless

WAV and FLAC keep every detail and are large; MP3 and AAC (M4A) remove what the ear hardly notices and are about a tenth of the size. Converting from lossless to MP3 is the typical step before sharing. Converting between lossy formats (M4A to MP3) re-encodes the sound; at 192 kbps or more that is not audible for most material, but avoid doing it again and again.

## Private and works offline

Your browser decodes the audio and the page encodes it with LAME (MP3) or AAC, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and after the first use the tool also works offline.
