# Request Files From Anyone With One Link

Chasing a client for raw footage, collecting photos after an event or getting documents from a supplier usually means explaining some transfer service to them. A request link turns it around: they open your link, drop their files, done.

**Quick answer:** On the upload page choose Request files, enter Your email (files are sent here) and What do you need?, add an optional Message for the sender, pick how long the Link accepts files for and press Create request link. Confirm your email with the 6-digit code unless you are signed in with it. Share the request link: anyone who opens it can upload up to 20 GB per upload, and you get an email with a download link each time. A private manage link lists what arrived and lets you close the request.

## What it does and when to use it

A request link is the opposite of a download link: other people upload to you. Each upload arrives as its own transfer, emailed to you with a download link.

- **A video editor** needs the raw camera files from a client who has never used a transfer service.
- **An event organiser** wants guests to send their phone photos and videos in original quality, not chat-app copies.
- **An accountant or HR team** collects scanned documents from several people without giving out a shared drive.

## Create a request link step by step

1. On the [upload page](https://sharelargefilesfree.com/), choose **Request files** (next to Get a link and Send by email). The card says "Request files from anyone".
2. Fill in **Your email (files are sent here)** and **What do you need?**, for example "Please upload the final cut".
3. Optionally add a **Message for the sender** with instructions.
4. Choose how long the **Link accepts files for**, from 1 day up to the longest period offered.
5. Press **Create request link**. Under **Check your email**, type the 6-digit code and press **Verify**. Signed in with that address? This step is skipped.
6. On **Your request link is ready**, press **Copy link** and share it. Copy **Your private manage link** too and keep it to yourself. Both are also emailed to you.

## What the other person sees

They do not need to know anything about this site. A page titled **File request** with your request and message, a line saying until when it is open and how much they can send, and a drop area. They can add **Your name (optional)**, **Your email (optional)** and a message, then press **Send files**. When the upload is done they see **Files sent**. No account, no app and no email code are needed on their side. If they fill in their email, it helps you know who sent what, because it appears with the upload you receive.

Tip: be specific in **What do you need?**. "Wedding photos, originals from your camera, not WhatsApp copies" gets better results than "Photos".

## A worked example

Arjun is cutting a promo for a café. He creates a request called "Phone clips from Saturday, originals please", open for 7 days, and sends the link to the owner on WhatsApp. The owner uploads 14 clips (3.2 GB) from her phone. Arjun gets one email, opens the link, and downloads the clips as a ZIP. Two days later a staff member sends four more through the same link; that arrives as a second email. When he has enough, Arjun opens the manage link and presses **Close request**.

## What you receive and how to manage it

Each upload arrives as an email with a download link. Opening it shows the normal download page, with the uploader's message.

![Download page as the recipient sees it, with the list of files and a Download button](https://sharelargefilesfree.com/assets/img/guides/download-page.jpg?v=1791899187)

- The manage link shows **Received (N)** with every upload so far and an **Open** link for each.
- **Close request** stops new uploads at once; otherwise the link stops by itself at the end of the period you chose.
- Received files are normal transfers that expire after 1 day. Download them in time.

## Limits and what it does not do

- Each upload can be up to 20 GB. Bigger sets can be sent as several uploads through the same link.
- Anyone with the request link can upload to you. There is no password on it, so share it only with the people you asked, and close it when you are done.
- Uploads from one connection are limited per hour, to stop abuse.
- Files are not saved into a cloud folder for you. If you want them to land permanently in Dropbox or Drive, a Dropbox file request suits that better.

## Troubleshooting

- **No code email:** check spam, then press **Resend code**, or **Change details** if the address was mistyped.
- **The uploader sees "This request link isn't available":** the link was cut off when pasted, or the request was closed or has ended. Create a new one.
- **Lost the manage link:** search your inbox for the email sent when you created the request.
- **An upload is stuck:** ask the person to keep the page open; uploads continue after short drops.
- **Too many uploads arrive as separate emails:** ask people to add all their files in one go before pressing Send files; each press makes one transfer.
